Designed by AvroKO and handcrafted by Exquisite Surfaces, this collection draws inspiration from the cultural nexus of AvroKO's headquarters: downtown New York City, a vibrant, layered fusion of nationalities, languages, foods, sights, smells, colors and textures. The abstract patterns and bold colors offer a spirited, shapeshifting illustration of AvroKO's ethos and artistic process.
Available in four color narratives, the names for the color schemes are streets that surround AvroKO's studio: Canal- a rich layered blue; Mulberry- a deep muted wine; Prince- a playful primary mix; and Essex- a classic black and white combination. The patterns are influenced by the tactile, immersive actions of an artist such as folding, layering, painting, and cutting, and particularly influenced by the artistic movement born in New York City in the 1960s and 1970s: Conceptual Minimalism. Artists including Sol LeWitt, Agnes Martin, Donald Judd, Frank Stella and Ellsworth Kelly started creating works out of raw materials that consisted of basic geometric forms. These inspirations are apparent throughout the collection, particularly in the visual layering of forms and tonal elements, creating a language that not only invokes the spirit of Downtown New York City, but the artists and designers that create here.
